This is a shot just a few hours before we trailer the
car a few miles to the sand blaster. We will be using two systems to clean the old paint
and rust from the body. Sand blasting is a job I will gladly sublet out and will be money
well spent. Fred has been the business for many years and with his equipment needed to do
a nice quick job for me. At $125.00 per hour we are planning on four hours of work, hence
that is the limit I ask for. Fred will sand blast the floor and trunk pan and use the soda
blaster for the more delicate areas which include the roof panel and any other panel which
may warp from the sand blaster.
The road runner is back home after a short time and it
looks very nice. The floors, roof, cowl, firewall and roof are as clean as can be. That
was some of the best money I will have spent on this project for sure!! It's nice to start
with bare clean surfaces, this will make the entire job go much easier. But with no time
to loose we need to get the bare metal sealed with an epoxy self etching primer to prevent
the metal from getting soiled and rusty.
A look at the inside of the trunk compartment after all
of the rust and paint was removed reveled some good news. The floor is in good enough
shape to leave intact and for now it will be sealed.
A coat of Dupont vara-prime was applied and let
dry over night and then all of the seams were sealed with a brushable seam sealer the
following day.
The interior received the same treatment as the trunk.
The next step in here is to repair the hole in the tunnel.
This is a shot of the firewall after a coat of sealer.
Replacing the aprons will be the next thing to do here.
With a coat of sealer and Chroma-One things are looking
a lot different inside the road runner.
