Engine build
The stock shovelhead cases will be completely disassembled and cleaned
before the machine work is done.
The flat area to the top, just below the cylinder holes will need to be relieved
for clearance to make room for the crank pin due to the longer 4 3/4 stroke.
Other relieving will also need to be done to the cases before assembly of the
engine.
Fitting the wheels with the longer stroke involves putting the lower end
together as shown to view the areas the connection rods come in contact with the
case. One then marks the area takes all apart, removes material a little at a
time, put back together and check clearance again. This is one of the most
important details to get right so I took my time and am going to check one last
time to be sure we have it done correctly.
With the help of a degree wheel we are now going to check the crankcase breather
timing. This is another area that needs to be checked and breather area relieved
for the proper crankcase evacuation of oil and vapors due to the increased
volume of air being moved by the pistons.
Got the new power side bearing races pressed in and what I am really excited
about the new electronic Mallory billet distributer which will make tuning the
new engine much easier. {I hope}
